Jené Luciani, America’s favorite bra & style guru!

The stars will all be shining on February 24th at The Oscars or will they? There were so many misses at the award shows with celebs not putting their best bust forward, we decided to get some expert advice.

doB enlisted, Jené Luciani, the woman Dr. Oz urged his viewers to ‘all hail the bra guru,’ and millions nationwide watch TV shows for her style advice, and read her bestselling tome to all things boobs, The Bra Book.

Here are Jené’s tips to avoid flopping at The Oscars:

Jessica Chastain at the Golden Globes – the top of her dress was so ill-fitting and loose, it made her appear she had saggy boobs! I would have suggested sewing in some foam bra cups (you can get them at any craft store) to at least provide some shape, so her boobs didn’t get lost in all the billowing of that fabric.

Julianne Moore at the SAG Awards – This look is a total FLOP. I LOVE a deep plunge as much as anyone but here it’s just not working… instead of focusing on her beautiful face (and a colorless dress that completely washes out her fair skin), we are mostly focusing on the unfortunate fit of the bustline, that makes her boobs look completely saggy. A ½ INCH more of fabric on each side would have suited her better, providing a bit more coverage but still a sexy amount of cleavage (ala Kate Hudson at the Globes or Taylor Swift at the People’s Choice).

Jennifer Lawrence at the Golden Globes – she may be the reigning ‘sexiest woman alive’ and ‘it girl’ of the moment and while her acting is certainly on-point, so was the unflattering bust of this dress!!! While we admired her teeny tiny waist, all eyes were also on the odd way the fabric seemed to give her pointy-shaped boobs. This dress had critics screaming ‘is the cone bra back?’

Jen Garner at the Golden Globes – it seems sweetheart necklines are back in vogue but there was nothing sweet about Jen Garner’s wardrobe malfunction and over-board cleavage. Her boobs seemed to be trying to escape from this Vivianne Tam dress until they nearly did, and she had to ‘hike it up’ to prevent further spillage. The way to rectify this situation? She needed to go a size up in this dress, and get a good strapless bra!

Michelle Dockery at the SAG - C’mon Michelle, side boob is like, SO 2012. Guess she didn’t get the memo! I thought we’d escaped this when I saw all the sweetheart necks but of course one or two stars just couldn’t seem to stay away from showing profile-cleavage (yes Taylor, we’re talking to you too).

To submit your questions, find her on Facebook at www.Facebook.com/TheBraBook, Twitter @jeneluciani or email her direct at ask@jeneluciani.com.

It’s almost time for the most romantic and starry-eyed holiday of the year…Valentine’s Day. Whether you have fancy dinner reservations, a special homemade dinner menu constructed or some other exciting plans with your loved one, you know you want to look your best. Seeing as it’s a day revolving around candy, wine and kisses, your flirtiest aspects to play up are your lips. This is the most important day of the year to make them stand out, and what better way to do that than with a lip-popping color?

To stay in the Valentine’s Day spirit, you should turn to your ridiculously woman-like shades, such as red and pink. Whichever shade you want to wear is totally up to you seeing as makeup is all a personal preference. In my opinion, if you’re trying to seductively get your man’s attention, go with red; if you’re trying to lure your date in with the “Girl Next Door” look, go with pink. Either way, I promise that wearing the little bit of color will emphasize one of your best qualities!

Seeing as it’s still the winter, you’ll want to be sure to pick the right shades of either lipstick. If you choose to wear red lipstick, be sure to go with a cool, blue-infused shade. Picking a bright, fire truck red lip would be wrong this time of year. Try something like MAC’s “Russian Red” lipstick ($15.00) or Revlon Colorstay Ultimate Suede “Couture” lipstick ($9.99). My all-time favorite red lipstick is MAC’s “Viva Glam 1” lipstick ($15.00) The same rule applies for pink lipstick; be sure to pick a dark magenta winter-inspired shade, as opposed to a fluorescent rose more suitable for spring or summer. Try a shade like Sephora Collection’s “Royal Raspberry” Color Lip Last ($12.00) or Maybelline Super Stay 14HR “Fuchsia Forever” lipstick ($8.99).

Now that you’ve got an idea of what color to pick, you’ll want to make sure you wear it properly. The point of swiping on these romantic shades is to emphasize your lips; therefore, you cannot emphasize anything else drastically. Keep your eye makeup to a minimum. In other words, wear a neutral eye shadow with brown eyeliner (not black), and one coat of mascara. It’s also important to remember that since you’re wearing such a bold color, you’ll want to make sure you buy a matching liner. You certainly wouldn’t want your beautiful lipstick to run, now would you? Here is my last and final tip, but it is the most important one to remember: after you’ve applied your liner and lipstick, go in with your concealer and precisely outline your lips. This will work best with a concealer brush. Doing so, will make your perfect pucker that much more irresistible! Now, what are you waiting for? Get to pouting!

Celebrity hairstylist Marcia Hamilton has been the styling force behind an array of P!nk’s magazine covers and spreads including this gorgeous photo shoot producing these two rare images of the pop rock singer-songwriter. Marcia offers the scoop on how she achieves the hair in each including a behind the scenes glimpse into the products found on her hair station.

Get P!nkʼs Sexy, Marilyn Monroe Inspired Coif

1. With P!nk holding orchid flowers in her hands, the styling process was started with damp hair cleansed with White Sands Orchid Bliss Shampoo and Conditioner to enhance this flower theme.

Mybotto.com

Celebrity Smart Tip: “The hot pink mybotto inverted bottle holder seen here allows me to get all of the shampoo and conditioner out of the bottle, even to the very last drop,” reveals Marcia Hamilton.

2. Add a few pumps of volumizing mousse for lift and texture evenly from roots to tips.

3. Blow hair dry with a medium round boar bristle brush

4. Clip extension pieces into the crown of your hair, making sure to leave enough out on the perimeters for coverage.

Celebrity Smart Tip: “If your hair is fine or a bit short, I suggest using clip in extensions to achieve P!nk’s ‘Marilyn’ style. Approximately 3 pieces should do the trick,” says Marcia.

5. Spray hair with a heat protect styling spray like White Sands Liquid Texture Firm, curling the entire head with a medium to large curling iron. Wait a few minutes before coming out.

6. For streaks of playful color, apply Hypercolor Hair Powder with a makeup brush then set the style with a medium hold hairspray, while teasing roots a bit before combing through the curls for this sexy voluminous look.

Get P!nk’s Signature Pumped Up Pomp
Photographer: Deborah Anderson

Get P!nk’s Signature Pumped Up Pomp

1. For this look, start with dirty hair. If your hair is really clean add a bit of a mattifying powder.

2. Section out the crown area and use a large barrel curling iron to create volume, pinning each curl formed out of the way.

3. Take a nickel size glob of pomade and rub hands together then applying to sides and back.

Celebrity Smart Tip: “When I use other styling products besides pomades, I always make sure I use mybotto bottle holders: they help me save time and money and they are great for reducing my use of plastic bottles,” says Marcia.

4. Brush sides back. If hair is too long, secure with bobby pins.

5. Take pins out of the crown, tease and run fingers through the curls. Spay with White Sands Stuck Up Mega Hold Hairspray for maximum hold and volume.

We know, love and often write about farm-to-table restaurants. Do you know about farm-to-massage table? Yes, you read it correctly…massage table!

ISPA is recognized worldwide as the leading professional organization and voice of the spa industry. They discussed recently, the trend in spas sourcing local, organic food to incorporate into their treatment offerings. Here is information from ISPA that I had to share with you.

The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics celebrates March as National Nutrition Month, with 2013 marking the 40th anniversary of this educational campaign. As a long standing promoter of healthy living and wellness, spas are focusing on the healthful benefits of utilizing local and sustainable foods within their facilities.

International SPA Association President Lynne McNees

“The number one reason globally that men and women go to a spa is to learn how to manage their stress. We know that in order to lead a life of wellness, one must incorporate a diet rich in fruits and vegetables, so it only makes sense that spas are encouraging a more well-rounded approach to a healthy lifestyle,” said International SPA Association President Lynne McNees.

Jessica Timberlake, spa director of Laguna Cliffs Resort & Spa, found farm to table treatments a missing element from high-end spas. “We are incorporating fresh ingredients sourced from VR Green Farms of San Clemente, Calif. into our seasonal body treatments and facials. We are also looking into some cross-branded retail items so our guests can take their spa experience home with them.”

Many spas feel that offering local and whole foods are a part of the mantra of their spa. “Paying tribute to the land and family farming supports our mission of wellness in all we do and setting an example of love and respect for the earth,” said Carla Minskey, communications manager at Sundara Inn & Spa in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin.

The Umstead Hotel and Spa in Raleigh, N.C. partners with a local, organic, fair trade, coffee company to provide three flavors of coffee to their guests, even creating a flavor named after the hotel.

McNees continued, “ISPA member spas are doing their part within their local communities and are partnering with farms to bring their clients nutrient-rich components as part of their experience and visit to the spa. This is such a natural fit for an industry that has spent decades promoting to the health-conscientious consumer.”

We believe that the secret to a more beautiful you can be found within the foods we eat, beauty choices we make every day and from inside.

“How would you like to begin the New Year by taking 7 years off your age? That is the promise we are making today.” –Dr. Oz

Rosemary Ellis with Dr. Oz

I was watching a segment on Dr. Oz, he featured, 7 Years Younger, an anti-aging guide that helps women look and feel seven years younger in just seven weeks. The program, conceived by the experts at Good Housekeeping, takes a comprehensive integrated approach to anti-aging, addressing skincare, makeup, hair care, nutrition, fitness, emotional health and brain games, to help women feel youthful inside and out. 7 Years Younger is a user friendly program and I thought you should check it out. Readers will find tips that are easy-to-follow and stick with in order to look and feel younger. Here are a few:

Cut back on food products that list sugar among the first three ingredients: Proteins in skin react with excessive sugar, causing skin to age faster.

Little moves can add up to big benefits. Set your phone alarm to remind you to stand up, stretch, and walk around every hour. Try to walk 20 minutes every day. Always take the stairs. Moving vigorously and often in your daily life can burn up to 300 extra calories every day.

To diminish brown spots on your face, look for a serum with ingredients like kojic acid and licorice. Apply it at night after you wash your face; the treatment will be more effective on clean skin.

Keep calm and sniff lavender. Put a drop of essential oil on a cloth and slip it under your pillow to get a good night’s sleep.

Say your intentions out loud (no matter how silly you feel): Speaking them increases the chances you’ll actually act on them.

dishin‘ tip: There are days that I’d wish I could look just 7 days younger, but a program to look 7 Years Younger…you have to check out!

It doesn’t matter if you are a 49ers fan or a Ravens fan on February 3, 2013 there will be plenty of calories to go around. During the Super Bowl, research by the Calorie Control Council and Snack Food Association found that Americans will eat 30 million pounds of snacks on game day. Whichever brother you’re cheering be sure to kick off Super Bowl XLVII with tasty but nutritious snacks.

Here are five deliciously healthy recipes from Expert Chef Erin Dow for Guiding Stars, a nutritional navigation system that evaluates the healthfulness of foods based on nutrient density.

Asian Lettuce Wraps

Designed to be packed with flavor and quick to make. Ditch your routine sandwich for something with a little more pizzazz for a packed lunch that you can look forward to.

Try this recipe: Asian Lettuce Wraps

Tandoori Shrimp Skewers

Owing to the fragrant and spicy curry powders, striking yellow turmeric and earthy cardamom and allspice, Indian cuisine is a guaranteed winner if you’re into bold flavors.

Try this recipe: Tandoori Shrimp Skewers

Chippy Chili

Just 10 minutes to prep and ready within an hour, this family friendly dish will quickly become one of your “go-to” meals during a busy week.

Try this recipe: Chippy Chili

Zucchini Hummus

Small zucchinis are very moist, so if you’re using them, omit the water from the recipe until you see what the texture looks like as you process the ingredients: you want it to resemble a loose peanut butter. If you’re using large dry zucchinis, start out with ½ c water, then add water toward the end of processing if you need to thin the hummus out.

Try this recipe: Zucchini Hummus

Garlic-Lime Black Bean and Avocado Spread

Great enjoyed as a dip with veggie strips and baked chips. Add as many extra veggies as you wish: good candidates include jalapenos, blanched and cooled corn, and whole cooked black beans.

It is rich in electrolytes that replenish the minerals that were lost as a result of too much alcohol and dehydration. It hydrates you quickly and efficiently to battle that hangover-in-the-making.

· The liver isn’t the only organ that takes abuse over the holiday season- too much eggnog and holiday cocktails affect your kidneys too! Give both a good cleanse by adding a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar to your water first thing every morning.

· Mini-fast often. Give your body a rest from digestion and allow it to heal, recover, and rejuvenate. Stop eating at least 3-4 hours before bed and then bring on the meals slowly and gently in the morning. Start with some water (perhaps with a squeeze of some fresh citrus or herbs, like mint leaves). Then have some tea. Progress to a fresh-pressed juice (vegetables with a bit of fruit for sweetness) or a green smoothie once you begin to feel true physical hunger. Your first solid meal should be several hours since your last meal and, in that time between, your cells are detoxified and eager to start anew.

· Eat mostly whole foods that come directly from nature and, ideally, are found without a label. Processed foods contain toxin-producing artificial sweeteners, colors, flavors, preservatives, sugars, oils, and animal products that are difficult for your body to breakdown and manage. Consider having a regular “REAL day” (perhaps several times a week) where you eat only ingredients you can easily recognize and pronounce; and base your diet on vegetables, fruits, whole grains, legumes (beans, peas, and lentils), nuts, and seeds.

Jai Sugrim

· Drink more water! All of the metabolic reactions inside of our bodies occur in water. So this means a properly hydrated human body will have a better chance to operate optimally in all areas of health, such as the digestion of food, assimilation of nutrients, and the removal of wastes. Your blood volume will increase; the blood delivers nutrients to cells and like the garbage bin of the body, in that it helps to remove wastes. Water also provides a nice moist environment for the eyes, ears, nose and throat. We cast a powerful, healthy, vibrant vibe when we are well hydrated. The right amount of water to drink varies from person to person. Lack of water in the body can lead to dehydration, making it difficult to carry out basic metabolic functions, and make you look tired and drained of energy. Minimally I recommend that men drink roughly 3 liters (about 13 cups) per day and for women 2.2 liters (about 9 cups.) If you are extremely active or do lots of athletic performance, bump it up a little!

· Take up Regular Yoga practice. If you are new to yoga, try Jivamukti Yoga Basics. This is a great introduction to yoga, where the class size is small, and students are assured lots of individualized instruction which make the teaching sink in. Get familiar with the names of the poses, and the correct alignment plus breathing technique. Then graduate to the open level Vinyasa Yoga practice, where the twisting poses will literally “ring out your organs.” Alcohol, Sugar, Caffeine, and any other over-indulgence will literally sweat out of your pores, as the practice cleans you from the inside out. You will leave the yoga classroom feeling restored and renewed. The mind-body connection will also be an extra benefit, leaving you feeling centered and clear.

Battling The Winter Blues For Blondes

The cold weather will take a real toll on our skin’s condition. Did you know, winter can be harsh, on our hair’s health, affecting its appearance? I work really hard to keep my color looking it’s best. Actually, Carlina Ortega of The John Barrett Salon at Bergdorf Goodman does the hard work. Anyway, I’ve asked Carlina to share her tips on keeping hair healthy while Old Man Winter is in town. Check them out…

5 Tips For Winter Blondes By: Carlina Ortega

1. Deep condition your locks at least once a week. Deep conditioning will keep your blonde hair shiny and silky in the cold and dry weather. My go to conditioner is Shu Uemura Moisture Velvet Nourishing Treatment Masque ($68). The Camellia oil helps nourish and smooth your hair. Keeping it on for at least five, but up to fifteen minutes will do the trick. Your hair will thank you every time.

2. Use heating appliances sparingly. If you can’t live without your flat iron or curling iron be sure to always use a heat protecting product before hand. One product that works and won’t hurt your budget is Nexxus Pro-mend Heat Protexx Heat Protection Styling Spray ($10.09). Another great product is Shu Uemura Satin Design White Tea Polishing Milk ($38).

3. Limit the amount of times you shampoo. With the freezing cold temperatures and dry air you don’t want to take away the moisture your blonde needs. Limiting your shampoos to two to three times a week will save you an early trip to the salon and help keep your hair looking fresh and vibrant even in the harshest weather. Also, don’t forget to use a shampoo for color treated hair like Pureologly Hydrate Shampoo or Full Shimmer for color treated hair by Shu Uemura ($19).

4. Don’t leave home while your hair is still wet. Aside from possibly making you sick. In the winter the low temperatures and strong winds can actually freeze your wet hair and lead to it breaking or becoming brittle.

5. Spread out your highlight appointments to every 6-12 weeks. The winter weather might fade your hair color prematurely, but fight the urge to get your highlights done more often.

Carlina’s dishin’ tip: In the winter your hair is at it’s most fragile so ask your colorist for a gloss or glaze to brighten your color in between highlight appointments. That will keep your blonde looking fabulous without damaging it.
