4th of July Cocktails

Cheers to the 4th of July!

With the summer of super fruits upon us, it would be a shame not to use them in our holiday celebration cocktails.  Always looking for something new to serve my guests, I came across this Strawberry Watermelon Cocktail from Munchin With Munchkin. It was the red in my patriotic party.

Strawberry Watermelon Cocktail

Being the source of powerful antioxidants provided by nature, watermelon is also a great source of Vitamin A through its high concentration of beta-carotene.  Also high in lycopene, it helps the body neutralize free radicals.  Add some strawberries and you are protecting your immune system and bone health as well.  Finally, by using fresh lime juice, you can fortify your system do to other vitamin deficiencies.

Strawberry Watermelon Cocktail

Makes 4 servings
2 cups chopped watermelon
1/2 cup diced strawberries
1 cup coconut water (my favorite is Vita Coco)
1 tbsp. agave nectar
Juice from 1 lime
Roughly 1 cup of ice
3-4 shots of white rum

Step 1

In a blender put watermelon, strawberries, coconut water, agave, lime juice and rum.  Blend until smooth.

Step 2

Add one cup of ice and chop until it is crushed. Mix longer if you want a smoother drink.

Step 3

Pour into 4 glasses and garnish with a lime and strawberry.

Enjoy!

If you are looking for a Sangria style cocktail, cut the calories and use one of Skinnygirl’s new wines in the mix.  For something non-alcoholic that still packs a healthy punch, try Joy the Baker’s Strawberry Cucumber Smoothies.  Even the kids can enjoy!

Happy 4th of July from our doB family to yours!
