Haunting Beauty

By:

Haunting Beauty ModelI have always been inspired by a little drama, so the new vampy trends in makeup are right up my runway. Sadly, in my attempt at a throwback to my high school days of channeling Robert Smith of The Cure circa 1987, I end up looking a little ill. So I asked my besty who just happens to be a lead makeup artist for MAC what to do to add some glam to my Goth-like uniform of dark sweaters and black boots. “I need a dose of sophisticated mystery to inspire my work day wardrobe”, I cry in despair. My dear Claudia Koziner Faulkner
calmly instructs me that smoky eyes are always fashionable, but I’ll need some extra oomph this season to stay on trend and lend some intrigue to autumn’s gloomy days. To achieve these hauntingly beautiful looks that just beg for a Twilight inspired soundtrack, Claudia suggests starting with either eyes or lips in an almost blackish purple or ruby hue.

Here are some of the fabulous Claudia’s doB tips:

Laura Mercier Caviar Eye Stick in Plum is just the ticket for cozy sweaters and stilettos. Easy to use, just keep layering on lids until you get the desired effect. For a chic clean look, try dark lips with minimal face and eyes a la Demi Lovato’s recent tweet wearing Bobbi Brown in Black Raspberry. This stunning look is more office to dinner appropriate than up all night chasing werewolves.  Beware though; this is a strong sexy mouth that commands attention!

Are you ready for Halloween?  No need for a costume with these sultry looks.  Just add this season’s hottest trend in faux fur by Marc Jacobs, your sexiest boots and dark vampy lips. Darken up your brows for extra fierceness and get ready for tricks and treats. Gucci threw us back to the 70’s with an updated version of this look with spidery lashes and bold deep crimson lips. These haunting looks are great for a spooky night and totally appropriate for any Halloween party day or night.

So if you’re ready to rock haunting beauty looks and inspire double takes instead of undertakers, try something a little bolder than your everyday makeup.  Just make sure to reapply after you kiss that sexy vampire.

  • Great post! Thanks so much for sharing. I’m always afraid to do a dark/smoky eye with a dark lip but I guess that’s what Halloweeen is for… experimenting! If I look a little TOO gothic-y, I’ll just write it off a having been bit by the Halloween spirit! Thanks Jill! (By the way, I LOVE all of Laura Mercier’s products, some of the best make-up out there)

  • Thanks whisky woman! I bet you looked smokin’ last night! I agree about Laura Mercier, her primer has been a staple of mine for years! Melts the years right off!
