Dark Chocolate Hair To Dye For

This summer, channel your inner Audrey Hepburn with pitch perfect chocolate tresses. Espresso, Carmel or classic – which one is right for you?

We spoke to New York’s rising star colorist, Carlina Ortega at The John Barrett Salon for some tips on the hottest trends in hair.

Spice it up

Dark chocolate brown is a perfect color for someone who wants a sexy yet sophisticated look. The richness and shine of the chocolaty hue easily compliments people with warm complexions. The most striking brunettes are often very dark or very light. Anything in-between is out.

And remember, once you go blue black there is no going back…at least not without significant damage to your heart, hair and wallet. In the words of Holly Golightly, “there are certain shades of limelight that really can wreck a girl’s complexion.”

Just this once, keep it low maintenance

To keep your hair looking its best, Carlina recommends using a shampoo and conditioner for color treated hair and washing it only two to three times a week. Her all-time favorite products are Shu Uemura’s Full Shimmer shampoo and conditioner for color treated hair. They both contain musk rose oil, which does a great job of preventing oxidation and keeping the color from fading.

Kiss and Make-up

For the sexiest look to compliment and soften your sultry new do, opt for heavy black mascara and smoldering jewel tones on the eyes.

Carlina’s dishin’ tip: Try Loreal’s Ever Pure Sulfate Free Color Care System. A great product for half of the price – with zero calories.

Now doesn’t that make you want to let your hair down.
